Adding a custom style to your front door.

Adding a custom style to your front door.

Many San Antonio residents are fans of the ancient art of stained glass. And why not, since it has been a popular and beautiful art form for many centuries. Once upon a time, people did not consider adding custom stained glass to their homes; they thought of it as something mainly for churches or old buildings. But now, with people looking for ways to add beauty, value, and uniqueness to their homes, they are turning to stained glass.

So how do you make your home stand out from the rest, especially if it is NOT a custom home? If it is a home on a street in a development where every home looks just about the same? And you are not a “same old, same old” kind of person!

One way to make your home stand out to visitors is by installing custom designed stained or clear glass sidelights. Many San Antonio homes come with those thin vertical panes of glass on either side of their front door. Some even complete the look with a transom window, either rectangular or the traditional half moon shape, above the front door.

But what they don’t come with is gorgeous, eye-catching, welcoming stained glass sidelights. Your entryway will welcome you home every night with a look you won’t get tired of. And since your house’s entryway is the first impression visitors and guests have of your home and your hospitality, why not say “welcome” with a gorgeous first impression.

Stained glass sidelights and transoms really finish the look of your entryway in a fashion that no shrubbery or lighting can compete with. They can add more privacy, not allowing people at your front door to see inside your home, without blocking any of the light coming in either.

When we design custom stained glass sidelights for our San Antonio clients, they frequently want clear, frosted, or etched glass designs. These don’t add any clashing or difficult-to-design-around colors, but do add a dose of elegance and refined taste.

Stained glass sidelights don’t just jazz up your entryway, they add real value to your home. And if you ever put it on the market, your choice of clear, leaded glass will ensure that your sidelights will not clash with any new decorating ideas your prospective buyers might have.

On the other hand, perhaps your house is painted or sided in deep, rich color, and you want vividly colored stained glass sidelights to contrast with or complement it. That is also a stunning choice! Why not add a matching stained glass panel to the center of your front door, while you are at it?
