La Sagrada Familia

The La Sagrada Familia stained glass windows are mesmerizing not only for their beautiful appearance, but also their enchanting story. While construction for the La Sagrada Familia began in 1866, it still is uncompleted as of this date. The primary architect, Antoni Gaudí, died in a tragic accident after began ran over by a tram, and many of his plans were later lost after the church was set on fire. However, even after these tragic events, construction still continued, with architects paying careful attention to the original aesthetic. The stained glass windows in this Europe church are a relatively new addition, and were installed in the year 2001.

Sainte-Chapelle de Paris

No list of beautiful stained glass in Europe is complete without the Sainte-Chapelle de Paris. Commissioned by King Louis IX, this vast and intricate collection of 15 stained glass windows is undoubtedly one of the greatest artistic masterpieces in the world. Over 1000 different religious figures can be found in the beautiful paintings.

Coventry Cathedral

Conventry Cathedral suffered significant damage in a bombing during World War II. However, a considerable amount of the ruins of the 14th century England church were able to be preserved, including the Medieval stained glass windows. A new church, St. Michael’s Cathedral, was built alongside the ruins and is also home to fantastic stained glass windows.
