St. Mary’s Catholic Church – Fredericksburg, TX


Built by Catholic German immigrants settled in the historic Texas town of Fredericksburg this church was constructed in 1908. It is made up of stone quarried nearby, and design by architect Leo M.J. Dielmann. This church has many large and stunning stained-glass windows installed in 1914 and is a marvel of American stained glass history.

 

 

 

St. Mary Catholic Church, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary – High Hill, TX

Widely regarded as the ‘Queen of the Painted Churches’, the stunning stained glass in this church is both a masterpiece and a focal point. It pairs beautifully with the Gothic vaults and joints and is truly one of the most magnificent stained glass marvels of Texas. Saint Mary Cathedral – Austin, TX

Saint Mary Cathedral in Austin is a historical landmark in large part due to the fact that the first cornerstone was laid the very same year Austin became the permanent capital of Texas. It was designed by architect and devout Catholic Nicholas Clayton with an idea to create a space that evoked beauty found in nature–which stained glass is well known for. In the splendid stained glass windows, one can almost see the reverence for God the saints held through the stories depicted as well as the many ways to love and serve.

Martin has spent over 30 years perfecting his skills as a glassmaker and is well-versed in both traditional and modern techniques, as well as a range of stained glass styles, including Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Mackintosh, Prairie, Mission, and beveled glass. Shortly after moving to the United States, Martin started his own business selling stained glass windows.
